#46: Used car salesman

John Howard used car salesman

Would you buy a set of used Aussie values from this man?

According to Oscar Wilde, a cynic is a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Taking this a step further, a used car salesman is someone who knows the price is always negotiable and the value is nothing. A politician is essentially a cynical used car salesman who will attempt to sell you your own values for as much as he can get.

This may seem like a somewhat jaundiced view, but the way the chaps in the loud suits are banging on about VALUES VALUES VALUES these days, you can be pretty sure that the LOW KMS sign is an indication that the odometer’s been wound back. The only thing you can be sure of is that the ONLY ONE OWNER sign is referring to J.W. Howard himself, and the values he’s selling don’t come with a warranty. Or a manual.

In fact, that yellowish tinge might not be jaundice at all - it’s a bit more of a lemony hue…
