#24: Cardboard box

Johnny Cardboard Box

Need a bit of job security? No worries! We’ll have them escort you off the premises. In the brave new world of Fair Unfair Dismissals, the handiest piece of office furniture you can own is a sturdy cardboard box to carry your stuff home in. Congratulations, you just created a job, and don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out.

If it seems a bit odd to you that the chap who’s just been given his marching orders has a broad grin on his face, it’s because you’ve somehow avoided seeing the advertisements which clearly depict not only a fairer, simpler workplace, but most importantly, a deliriously happy one. I strongly recommend you go and look at the ads many, many times, as you paid for them and you might as well try and get your money’s worth.

You’re still protected from discrimination, so if you’re sacked because the boss doesn’t like your shoes, try to make them traditional ethnic shoes, or orthopaedic shoes for your club foot, or preferably both, as this will make your boss have to think up a much more amusing and original reason which can be used to entertain the other chaps in the queue down at Centrelink.

Anyway, hang on to the box, because you’ll probably be re-employed at your old job on far fairer and simpler terms and conditions than before and if you don’t like it, you’ve always got the box to live in and you can’t say simpler or fairer than that.

Are you at all concerned that your rampant Leftist beliefs limit your objectivity as a cartoonist?

One wishes this was just funny! Sadly, its all too real! Many workers are now facing reductions in wages and conditions (like my partner) and see this as sadly all too real!

Ed, If he was a Leftist that would make him dare I say a Lib-er-al! And in answer to your question I think the answer would be no!
